How to Set Up Google Business Profile (and Why It's Free Marketing)

If your business serves customers in a specific area and you don't have a Google Business Profile, you're invisible in the moment that matters most: when someone nearby searches for what you sell.

What it gets you

A verified profile puts your business on Google Maps with one-tap directions, shows your hours, photos, products and reviews directly in search results, and lets customers call or message you without ever visiting your website.

Setting it up

  1. Claim your profile at business.google.com with your business name and category.
  2. Verify your address — usually by postcard, sometimes instantly by phone or email.
  3. Complete every field. Hours, service area, phone, website, attributes. Complete profiles get significantly more clicks.
  4. Add photos of your workplace, team and products — listings with photos get more direction requests and website visits.
  5. List your products and services with prices where possible.
  6. Collect reviews. Ask every happy customer, and reply to every review — good or bad.

Keep it alive

Google rewards active profiles. Post updates or offers weekly, keep hours accurate around holidays, and answer questions in the Q&A section before someone else does.
